KENSO ESTERIFICATION CAPABILITY FOR 2EH HERBICIDES

By November 2, 2021November 8th, 2021News

KENSO Corporations large scale formulation capabilities and facilities in Malaysia have received a major boost by the commissioning of a state-of-the-art esterification plant, signalling a great step forward for the KENSO group. KENSO customers around the world will benefit from its centralised location adding value logistically for the sourcing of esterified forms of 2,4-D and MCPA herbicides which remain essential products to this day for modern farming techniques.

Situated at Port Klang near Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the ISO 9001/2015 accredited Ester production facility was commissioned in 2019. Careful and thorough design planning was considered by the engineers and chemists as part of the project to gain maximum productivity and technical purity.

The esterification plant has ensured that KENSO is able to overcome inconsistency in supply of two key technical materials in the market and helps overcome long lead times for raw materials from existing producers. More importantly, KENSO chemical engineers can consistently produce high quality technical material, ensuring that every batch maintains the high-quality standard and purity that KENSO is known for. The plant mainly produces 2,4-D and MCPA Esters in the 2EH form. Producing these actives involves the reaction of acids and alcohols. These reactions are automated by a centralised PLC system. After the addition of the feedstocks the automated operating system controls the rest of the process, ensuring precise and accurate production outcomes. All parameters such as pressure, temperature and purity are monitored and controlled throughout the production process. This attention to detail and rigorous quality-control is standard across all KENSO production facilities and ensures that consumers can be confident in the product they are purchasing.

Demand for KENSO esterified products has been so strong since the plants’ inception that an expansion is already underway to double the capacity that will enable it to supply significant volumes to the region. This expansion involves replicating the reactor and other technology up-grades for improved productivity. The plant expansion is scheduled to be completed at the end of 2021 and is expected to be up-and-running at full capacity early 2022.
